birthdays and ben hur

On Thursday night, we had a party here at our condo to celebrate my birthday (Sunday) and Daniel's birthday (Friday). A good time was had by all. Earlier in the day, Daniel had a brilliant idea. We would play his favorite movie silently, as my favorite songs played . . . a type of soundtrack for the movie. Never in the history of film has Ben Hur been played to the musical flavorings of artists such as Coldplay, Griffin House, Kanye West, Ryan Adams, Over the Rhine, and Death Cab for Cutie . . . and later in the night, the 1920s silent version of the film played on to the beautiful live jam session that took place in our living room courtesy of Daniel, Aubrea, and Rusty. Such a great night.

Also, Colorado adopted two new residents this week--two of my best friends, JD and Shauna. JD is in Denver, and Shauna is in my living room. I'm really excited to have them here. Slowly, I plan to convince all of my friends from back home to move out here . . . I've got two down. Actually, it didn't take any convincing at all . . . I think the majesty of the mountains is more convincing than I could ever attempt to be.

Last night several of us went to see Nacho Libre. Good flick. Very funny. That Jack Black . . . he makes me laugh. I like him. Afterwards, in honor of Daniel's 26th birthday, Aubrea and I were privileged to hang out with the birthday boy at Mounain Sun. More good times were had.

And today . . . I slept in and I'm now getting ready to attempt to make a dent in the massive amount of work I have to do by Monday. And when that work is complete . . . well, I have no idea what's going on with the job situation . . .

Tonight Steve and Tammy are having another movie night in their backyard. Picture this: Casablanca under the stars on a warm summer night. Can't wait.

Something to think about: the ice cream man. Just meditate on the concept for a little while. More thoughts to follow . . .
