napa

first stop: chef thomas keller's bouchon bakery in yountville,
which is just north of napa.
amazing.
i had the ham and cheese croissant
and a bouchon (the tiny brownie).
heaven.

while in yountville, we caught our first glimpse of the grapes!

second stop: freekmark abbey,
one of the first wineries in california started by a woman.
her name was josephine.
had i been alive in the 1800s, we would have been friends.
also, i believe it is the second-oldest winery in napa.

third stop:
frog's leap,
which is in rutherford.
how appropriate.

by this point, we were having a good time--
a really good time.

it's my very favorite vineyard for so many reasons:
it's certified organic, they grow other fruits and vegetables,
the rooster crows non-stop, and this sweet kitty, terra cotta,
whom we met last year, makes me smile.

oh, and look at this interesting flower i found.

last stop: the girl and the fig,
a yummy little restaurant on the square in sonoma.
we celebrated shauna's birthday (again)
and had the most wonderful, delicious dinner
to conclude a fun day in wine country.

Mandy, it looks/sounds like you ladies had a great time! How cool to go back to a vineyard you've been to before. Love it! And YAY for getting away with girlfriends!

Did you meet any of our long lost relatives at the Rutherford Winery?
