jim gaffigan

Yesterday my co-workers and I drove to Beaver Creek (a small resort town next to Vail -- and believe it or not, probably fancier than Vail) to see the comedian Jim Gaffigan. Since seeing his Hot Pocket skit (see below) last year, I've been a huge fan. No other comic makes me laugh harder than this guy.

Anyway, after spending a couple of hours playing pool and eating dinner at a little Irish pub called Finnegan's Wake (love the name), we all drove up to a gorgeous theater to see Jim.

After the first 30 seconds, I knew I was in trouble. I was already crying, my face hurt, and my stomach was cramping up. And this went on for over an hour. Literally, I was in pain the entire show. I realized that if the CIA wants to torture people, they should just stick them in a room with Jim Gaffigan for a few hours. They'll be sure to break down. He is simply too much.

He did the skit about robes (click the play button) last night. This was one of many hilarious moments. My favorite was apparently a new skit -- Jim questioning the creation of beanbag chairs. It went something like this:

Have you ever wondered who came up with the beanbag chair? Was the guy just sitting around with his friends and said, "Hey, you know how people like to sit on beans?"

"Umm, no."

"Well, I was thinking that we could take a bunch of beans and fill up a vinyl circle with them so that when people wear shorts, it sticks to their legs."

I'm still laughing about that one today.

Needless to say, if you ever get the chance to see Jim live, do it. (Click here for a list of his upcoming appearances.)

My manager talked to him afterwards and he signed a poster for her. He wrote, "I love you and bacon." haha
