boulder -- ny times

Check out this article on Boulder in the NY Times.

For those of you who don't live here, I should warn you that the writer tends to focus on all of the idiosyncrasies of this town, while somewhat ignoring the fact that not everyone who lives here is a professional mountain biker, trustafarian, or a vegetarian.

But sure, Boulder is a weird place -- probably even stranger than I realize, as I have become used to many of its unique features. For example, as I sat at a stoplight yesterday, a "peace parade" -- a group of gypsies singing songs about peace -- skipped along in front of me, and this morning, I attended the first farmers' market of the year, where thousands of people go to buy local organic products. (I bought a beautiful lavender sachet that I'm probably a little too excited about.)

Just one more thing before you read this article about Boulder: I don't know anyone who uses dirty bath water to flush the toilet.

Interesting article. As I looked at the pictures flashing before me, I have to agree that this is what I see being an "outsider". Maybe you've been there too long and this all seems normal to you. Stop and think how much of Boulder do you see in good ol' Chillicothe? Boulder is a unique place perhaps beyond what the rest of us outsiders can comprehend, but setting examples all of us need to practice. MOM
