for emma, forever ago

It's been a little over two years since Bon Iver released their album For Emma, Forever Ago, and I still can't stop listening. The sadness and beauty and poetic angst that Justin Vernon pours out in his songs still pierces me every time I hear his voice. Fortunately, for all of us, some silly girl broke his heart, which caused him to flee to his father's cabin with some of his buddies to sort it all out through song.

Lately, I've been trying to write more poetry. The structured kind seems to work best for me. So tonight, I wrote a limerick, which was inspired by Mr. Vernon and his lovely music:

For Emma, in that cabin, he did write
But you see, it wasn't out of spite
His love was all maroon
So he sang of leery loons
And found himself in the spotlight

I love your writing too and it's not just because I'm your MOM. Just yesterday, I was remembering my first parent-teacher conference at school for you and it was with Mr. Riffel. I remember him telling me he thought you had a great gift for writing and especially in poetry. Anyway I think it was great he noticed that at an early age. You know how I hate to read, but I sure do love you style and I would read anything you wrote. You need to write some kind of a book. Give it a try.

thanks. :) I'm just not sure what I would write a book about. I'll try to come up with something. :)
