hope

this morning, the smoke covered boulder
like a thick, smothering, looming fog.
i stepped outside, and as it filled my lungs,
i thought of the firefighters.
for days, they've been heroically
attempting to save homes, towns, and land,
but it continues to spread.
hundreds of families have lost their homes.
this morning, there was a 10% chance of rain,
but around 3:00, a storm rolled in.
i've never been happier to see a dark sky.
it poured.
soon, we received reports that it was raining
in the canyon.
the raindancers were encouraged to dance harder.
it didn't last long, but we appreciated the moisture.
soon, a rainbow appeared over the city.
and then, a double rainbow.
it was beautiful,
and i think we all felt a sense of hope--
and the possibility of a promise
that a fire like this one will never happen again.
