A few weeks ago, my friend Niles told Shauna and me to keep this past weekend open because he had a surprise for us. Of course, we thought this was odd, but we did our best to trust him and go along with it. Of course, we're glad we did!
On Friday night, we were told to meet in Denver at Shauna's house for our first clue, which led us to a Starbucks, and then a 7-11, and then Silverthorne, which is a small mountain town, just east of Breckenridge. Off we went, in my little car, into the mountains to find out what Niles had planned for us. Once at our destination, a luxurious La Quinta, we opened an envelope that contained a note, which instructed us to go inside, ask for the room that Niles had for us. We were handed a key to a room. Shauna slid the key in the door, and then someone yelled, "Surprise!" It was not Niles, but our friend Samira and her boyfriend Daniel. Shocking, for sure!
Samira, Daniel, and some of his friends had actually been in the mountains since Wednesday, but we had no idea. For the rest of the weekend, we got to hang out with Samira. We laughed, cried, risked our lives on snowy, icy mountain roads, chatted in a quaint coffee shop in Breckenridge, and just enjoyed one another. So great!
Many thanks to Niles for helping to plan, for Samira for coming all the way to our state to spend time with us, and for Shauna, Samira, and anyone else traveling on I-70 this weekend for their patience as I crawled along the snowy road. :)
I feel so blessed to have such wonderful friends!
