a december update

I realized tonight that it's been quite some time since I've provide all three of you faithful readers with an update on my life here in Colorado . . . Here goes . . .
Winter is certainly here in full force. We've had a couple of significant snowstorms, both of which reminded me of how much I despise driving in the snow. I think it's beautiful, but being in a car, surrounded by other cars, snow falling all around us and covering the roads is basically a form of extreme torture for me. Perhaps I should move south . . . nah . . .

Last Monday, the snow fell and attempted to prevent me from seeing my favorite of all favorite rock stars, Ryan Adams. If you know of my love for him, you'll also know that not even the iciest of roads could keep me from being in the same room with him, if given the opportunity. Shauna, the brave soul that she is, got us there and home safely, which is quite impressive considering her car is quite literally held together with duct tape.

Ryan and his crew, the Cardinals, put on quite a show. At one point during the show, I determined that my entire life would be a failure if I did not marry him. The moment passed with the next jam, and I'm optimistic of being happy once again. Despite the storm outside and the skimpy audience, the Cardinals rocked out and reminded me once again of why they're at the top of my list. Oasis followed in the lineup and put on a great show as well.

On Thursday morning, one of my best friends from high school, Chris (Bubba), and his friend Chuck arrived in Boulder. We explored Estes Park, tasted the goodness of the Southern Sun, and enjoyed the sweet sounds of my friend and favorite local musician, Gregory Alan Isakov. It was great having the boys here!

Last night I attended a going-away party for Rusty, one of my best friends here in Boulder. Rusty's moving back to Nashville to further pursue his photography career. Check out some of his shots here! I'm very sad to see him go, but excited for the great opportunities he'll have back east.

And that brings us to the present day. I spent the majority of my afternoon and evening with some great friends, chatting over coffee, snarfing down some two-dollar tacos, and laughing over wine. I realized both last night and today that I have been so incredibly blessed to have made such amazing friends here in this town over the last four years. As I drove all of my belongings from Indianapolis to Boulder, I remember wondering who I would meet in this new town. The friends I have made have exceeded all hopes and expectations that I had at that time.

At the end of this coming week, I'll be flying home for Christmas. I'm so excited to see my family and friends in Ohio! I haven't been home since July, so I have some catching up to do as an aunt.

I hope all is well in your neck of the woods. Enjoy the holidays!

Your Daddy is anxious to see you too, although, I don't know if you realize it or not but your position of the favorite girl in my life has been overtaken by a three year old that has stolen my heart. Claira still likes to sit in her Papaw's lap with her blankie and suck her thumb. She also likes to sleep with me in the big bed rather than her new bed, (we usually have them every Monday night). Don't feel too left out though because Nathan has also been replaced with a best buddy in Corbin. He loves to wrestle and bet tickled by his Papaw, although he will say "don't tickle me Papaw", he always comes back for more.
I, one time, made the "mistake" of telling them that I was as strong as Ironman and that I could carry both of them to the car when they leave, so, now it's everytime. I don't really mind, actually, I love it.
Anyway, I don't know why I am rambling but I'll be glad to see you on Friday.
Love, Daddy
